FOUND HIPPO & RHINO

HUEY HIPPOPOTAMUS #02338

The word hippopotamus comes from two Greek words that mean “river horse.” There are two species of hippopotamuses. The smaller species, called the pygmy hippo, stands barely waist-high to an adult human. Its bigger relative—known as the river or common hippopotamus or, simply, hippopotamus—is one of the world's largest and heaviest land animals, weighing up to about 8,800 lbs. Although strictly a plant eater, the hippopotamus has massive jaws with formidable tusks. It is said that he also has an unpredictable temperament and is capable of biting through small boats and slicing crocodiles in two. Huey here says that this is all nonsense. He looks nothing like a horse; he's 12 inches tall and weighs 1/2 lb.; he loves everyone and he never, never, never eats anything bigger than his head! A good rule for all of us!

RHEA RHINO #32006

Rhea Rhinoceros may be big... but she's NOT slow. The real life version of Rhea a can thunder along at 40 miles per hour. Rhea is very sociable and likes to join groups. A group of rhinos is sometimes called a “crash”—an appropriate term for a large and ponderous animal that can crash through just about anything in its way. Rhea may look indestructible, but her skin is actually quite sensitive, especially to sunburn and biting insects. That's why she likes to wallow in mud at every opportunity. While some rhinos have a head that can weigh up to 2,000 pounds, Rhea prides herself on her thin face and petite frame. Oh, did we mention, Rhea has poor eyesight. She is 12 inches tall.

#2528 RHINOCEROS

Although rhinos have a bad reputation for being aggressive, most rhinos are gentle and timid and get startled easily. They have poor eyesight but their hearing and sense of smell are acute. If they attack, they usually rely on their sense of smell rather than sight. Heavy animals are not normally quick but the rhino, despite its bulky body, is remarkably agile! This Hand Puppet Rhinocerous is 22 inches long.
